Above are pictures of an AX20 Advantex System by Orenco taken shortly after installation in Chatham County, NC.
Pictured is a TS-ii system. It had two ax20 pods installed on it. Each ax20 is designed/permitted to treat up to 480gpd (4 bedrooms) so this system could have done up to 960gpd (8 bedroom). That being said, I don't remember exactly how many bedrooms were in the home.
In NC the reasons, why you would need to install a system like this Advantex to treat to a ts-ii standard vary but include:
-Poor soils that just won't work unless the septage is treated before dispersal
-lot size restriction (Treating to TS-ii standard, allows you to increase the long-term acceptance rate of the soil which means you can make your drain field smaller, reference page 38 of the North Carolina onsite wastewater rules)
-reducing setbacks - if setbacks are tight, treatment allows you to reduce
-insuring against drainfield failure - if you are spending large amounts of money on landscaping or hardscapes, treatment pretty much guarantees your drain field won't fail thereby preventing you from destroying your yard in digging up a drain field
TS-ii means that the treatment system is required to treat to <10 carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand (CBOD), <10 Total suspended solids (TSS) , <10 Total NH3 (ammonia) , <20 Total Nitrogen or >60% reduction.
There are hundreds of Advantex systems up and down the coast of North Carolina on large oceanfront homes.
A few reasons why engineers and homeowners may prefer Advantex are:
-Telemetry enabled control panel monitors flow and system performance 24/7 - notifies operator of any component failures or high flow events in real time, does not wait for alarm to go off
-Safety - All fiberglass and stainless steel construction on treatment units and septic lids - Orenco's site says they can take up to a 2500-lb wheel load if they have to. If you have ever seen what a driveway looks like in Kill Devil Hills when there are 20 people staying the week in an 8br you will get why this could be a good thing. Not to mention since they are oftentimes in the front yard or near walk ways, you want them to withstand someone stepping on them. Standing on one of these pods, you have no doubt that it is going to hold up under your weight or if a family stands on it for a photo opportunity in front of the house.
-Odor insurance - Most treatment systems will be odorless when operating properly - life happens though and sometimes that doesn't happen. I am impressed by the gaskets around the lids and charcoal lined vents. The only way air gets in or out is through that charcoal lined vent. or the plumbing vent on your house.
-Orenco - Advantex's manufacturer has been around 30+ years and doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Orenco uses local dealers and service providers to provide after sales service, but you can get someone at Orenco on the phone as well with no problem if you need to.
-Warranty (links at bottom of page) - Orenco offers the best warranty that I am aware of in the industry - warranty periods start from time of installation.
3 years on treatment systems (my understanding is that includes control panels when bought as part of a treatment system) Everything in the pictures except the concrete tanks are provided by Orenco
5 years on PF series high head pumps wow, Compare that to 2 years from manufactured date limited warranty from Myers MW50-11 which is a very common and well respected effluent pump used in septic systems.
Lifetime warranty on biotube filters - these filters are made to obviously made to last. I don't know of any other product that gets a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. I have maintained several on commercial systems and they are impressively made. No worries about them falling apart when you pull them.
At least 1 year on general onsite products
